Members of Black Scorpion CIC travelled to Bury this weekend to compete at the AMA National Karate Championships, returning home with an impressive collection of medals and, more importantly, a wealth of experience, confidence and memories.
Competition days are always about more than the medals. They are an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, test their skills under pressure, learn from others, and represent their club with pride. Every competitor who stepped onto the mats did exactly that.
Outstanding Performances Across the Team
Sensei Lucy had an excellent day, securing Gold in Ippon Kumite (16+) alongside Bronze medals in Sanbon Kumite (18+) and Team Kumite (16+) as part of a team with Zoi and Anya.
Zoi enjoyed an exceptional competition, taking home six medals across both kata and kumite events:
- Gold – Kata 13–15 Years (<4th Kyu)
- Gold – Sanbon Kumite 16–17 Years
- Silver – Kata 16+ (<4th Kyu)
- Silver – Open Grade Sanbon Kumite (15 Years)
- Silver – Open Grade Ippon Kumite (15 Years)
- Bronze – Team Kumite 16+
Isaac delivered strong performances throughout the day, earning Gold in Kumite and Silver in Kata.
Ava secured Bronze in Kumite after one of her strongest performances to date, demonstrating the progress that comes from consistent training and determination.
Darcy also achieved an excellent result, taking Gold in Individual Kumite.
While Madison did not come away with a medal this time, she performed her best kata yet and showed significant growth in both confidence and competitive experience. At Black Scorpion, we recognise that success is not always measured by medals alone. The courage to step onto the mats, perform under pressure and continue learning is an achievement in itself.
More Than Competition Results
While competition success is always something to celebrate, these achievements are built on countless hours of training, perseverance and commitment.
Behind every medal is a student who has attended classes week after week, worked through challenges, practised techniques repeatedly and continued to push themselves to improve.
The day was also a reminder of the incredible support network surrounding our students. Parents, families, coaches, volunteers and teammates all play an important role in helping our competitors succeed, both on and off the mats.
Proud of Every Competitor
We are incredibly proud of every member of Team Black Scorpion who represented the club at the championships.
Whether they returned home with gold medals, personal best performances or valuable lessons for next time, every competitor demonstrated the values that matter most to us: respect, perseverance, courage and continuous improvement.
Congratulations to everyone who competed, and thank you to all those who supported the team throughout the day.
We look forward to seeing what our students achieve next.
